Amy Meikle ALCM

Street Dance/Musical Theatre

Amy trained professionally at SLP College Leeds where she gained a National Diploma in Professional Musical Theatre and also became an Associate of the London College of Music. She has a variety of experience within the industry. Her credits include; Guys And Dolls (Gordon Craig Theatre, Stevenage), Footloose (Gordon Craig Theatre, Stevenage), CoLaS Awards 2008 – Dance Captain (Harrogate International Centre), That’s Entertainment (The Alhambra, Bradford), Barney’s Girl (City Varieties, Leeds). Amy has been teaching for 10 years now and has choreographed for various different shows and events outside of Freedom, including a recent show at the Royal Hall for Harrogate St. Andrews Players.

Freedom really is a dream come true for Amy, she loves to see her students shine and develop as performers as they grow in confidence. There is no better reward than to be part of a students success and to watch them achieve their goals.

Sam Ellis

ISTD Ballet & Tap

Sam trained at SLP College on their 3 year musical theatre course where she also gained her teaching qualifications with the ISTD. After graduating Sam taught at several schools across the Leeds area whilst auditioning for work as a dancer. For the past three years she has worked as a professional dancer and dance captain abroad. On returning to the UK Sam has begun teaching again at several schools in the area for children from the ages of 1 1/2 to 18 years, covering several different genres of dance including Tap, Ballet, Modern, Street and Contemporary.



Rachel Finan

Resident Teacher – Adult Ballet

Rachel started Ballet at the age of 4 at Knaresborough and Harrogate Dance Centre going on to train professionally in Contemporary dance at Newcastle Performance Academy gaining a 1st class Honours Degree. Since graduating Rachel worked for many regional dance companies in the North East and London areas as both a performer and choreographer.

Rachel has been teaching for the past 4 years completing a PGCE in Dance in 2010 at the prestigious Chelsea School of Brighton University. Currently Rachel teaches Dance at Garforth Academy Leeds working alongside Phoenix Dance Company, Northern Ballet Theatre, Yorkshire Dance and Youth Dance England.

Rachel has choreographed pieces various different shows including Rock Challenge – St Georges Hall Bradford and Fresh 2012 – Playhouse Leeds.

Nicki Ford FDI Ballet ALCM

Musical Theatre / Show Work

Nicki trained for 3 years at SLP College in Leeds, graduating in 2008 with the National Diploma in Professional Musical Theatre. In addition, she gained her Associate of the London College of Music in Musical Theatre Performance. Nicki has also completed her Diploma in Dance Instruction for the ISTD (Imperial Ballet).

Since Leaving college, Nicki has performed professionally for various children’s theatre companies throughout the UK, Ireland and Italy. She has also gained extensive teaching experience working for Freedom Performing Arts, Knaresborough and West Oxfordshire Academy of Performing Arts, Oxford.

Nicki recently opened her own performing arts school – EVOLVE ACADEMY OF PERFORMING in Larbert, Scotland.

Nicki regularly returns to Freedom to teach Musical Theatre as a guest teacher and as Choreographer in many of our holiday workshops and shows.



Amy Hunnings FDI CDE

Lyrical/Jazz & Show Work

Amy started dancing at the age of 3 at The Deepings Dance Centre, taking part in local competitions, pantos and productions in the local area. She also competed at the London Ballet awards.

At the age of 16 Amy went to SLP college in Leeds to study Musical Theatre for 3 years. Alongside this qualification, she took her teaching examinations in Modern Theatre, Ballet and Tap.

After leaving college, Amy performed at venues around the UK and also travelled to Hong Kong to perform in a Fosse and Grease production.

Amy teaches Ballet, Tap, Modern, HipHop, Musical Theatre and Acrobatics at her own school, Inspire Dance in Market Deeping, As well as working at numerous other schools in her local area.

Amy has worked at Freedom Performing Arts workshops since Easter 2011.



Ashley Johnson

Musical Theatre/Jazz Technique

Ashley trained at Scala Ltd and then continued his training at Bodywork Dance Studios graduating with a national diploma in Musical Theatre.   Theatre Credits included: Celebrity Cruises; “Simply Ballroom” and “Boogie Wonderland” (Qdos Entertainment), DAMUUS Dance Company (Leeds City Varieties/Wakefield theatre royal), Guys and Dolls (Gordon Craig theatre), Snow White (York Opera House), Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella, Snow White (Kings Theatre Southsea). Television Credits Include: Emmerdale (Itv), My Parents are Aliens (CITV) Heartbeat (Itv), My Spy Family (Boomerang). Choreography Credits; Great Ormond Street Christmas charity DVD (Whitbread), Costa UK Awards (Ricoh Arena). Ashley also teaches regularly for Scala Kids LTD as a guest teacher.



Jack Hawitt

Commercial / Musical Theatre / Show Work

Jack Hawitt is a Dancer / singer / songwriter / vocal coach based in London. He trained in Professional Musical Theatre and went on to appear in the West End musical We Will Rock You in 2009-2011. Along side performing, Jack teaches dance classes at several performing arts schools across the country.

Since 2009, Jack has been writing music and performing with band ‘Parnell Page’ and playing the London music scene. Parnell Page were discovered by the radio legend Paul Gambaccini who later asked them to perform at his wedding at the Royal Festival Hall. Since forming the band, Jack has written 3, 5 track EP’s which were released on iTunes in 2012/13. Along side ‘Parnell Page‘, he has written songs for different artists and bands and scouts for his monthly London music night ‘Thursday Live Lounge.
